Carols from the Cathedral

Christmas Comes Early to Killarney: “Carols from the Cathedral” Returns on December 1st Killarney is getting into the holiday spirit early this year with the return of the beloved “Carols from the Cathedral” concert, taking place at St. Mary’s Cathedral on Sunday, 1 December 2024, at 7:30 PM. This festive charity gala concert, presented by the Kerry Scotia Ensemble, features soprano Sharon Lyons and the Kerry Concert Choir for a magical evening of Christmas classics.

The concert promises to bring together a delightful mix of traditional and contemporary Christmas music, with the orchestra commissioning composer Richard Rudkins to create unique arrangements of both beloved carols with a classical twist. Expect to hear favorites like Silent Night, Hark the Herald, and Adeste Fideles, alongside modern classics such as Walking in the Air, all reimagined in a way you won’t hear anywhere else.

In addition to the music, the evening will include a raffle with exciting prizes, including a luxury hamper valued at over €150. All proceeds from ticket sales (after costs) and the raffle will benefit this year’s partner charity, the Kerry Hospice Foundation.

The Kerry Hospice Foundation plays a vital role in supporting palliative care services throughout County Kerry, providing much-needed care and support to patients and their families during challenging times. Through fundraising, the Foundation helps to ensure that individuals facing life-limiting illnesses receive the highest level of compassionate care in their communities.

Sharon Lyons, an internationally acclaimed soprano who has performed for world leaders and on stages around the globe, will headline the concert. Her album, This Holy Night, is available on streaming platforms like Spotify, where she has over 1 million streams. The Kerry Scotia Ensemble, established in 2016, is Kerry’s only professional string orchestra and has garnered widespread acclaim for its performances, supported by funding from Kerry County Council, the Arts Council, and the Department of Culture & Arts.

Tickets are €20 each and are available for purchase on Eventbrite or at the door on the night. Discounts are available for group bookings on Eventbrite. Join us for a heartwarming evening of music, community, and festive cheer – all for a great cause!
